Chippendale Chair
I built this chair while at the North Bennet St. School in Boston, MA. It comes from a single 8/4 thick, 10 inches wide and 10 foot long curly maple board.
Building a traditional 19th century canted-post chair is challenge. This chair took me nearly two months to complete.
These traditional chairs have many different angles to consider. The seat narrows to the back and the leg post are canted. Although it may take weeks to construct the first chair, in reality, most of the time is in setting up precision cuts on the table saw. Once the set up is done cuts for the other chair parts can be done quickly.
